Biography: Pablo Scioti (born Buenos Aires 1974)
I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1974, where I lived until my 31st birthday. I studied Fine Arts in Buenos Aires specializing in painting. After graduation I taught drawing and painting at the Instituto Universitario de Bellas Artes. At the same time I was a member of the Workshop of Drawing and Painting of the School of Maestro Eduardo Duarte. Meanwhile, I worked for ten years at the Department of Scenography and Art of “Produccciones Pol-ka” where I participated in the production and making of 10 long feature Argentina-Spain productions amongst them “El Hijo de la Novia”, “Luna de Avellaneda” and “Vientos de Agua”. I also worked in 28 TV series, 10 TV mini-series, 4 independent short films, 2 theater productions and 5 commercials. In the last two years I have lived in Barcelona, Spain.
I have tried to explain the meaning of painting as well as of my paintings. I believe it is very difficult to decipher the undecipherable while to begin something that has no beginning and no end. Instead I will quote an art critic:
Pablo Scioti: “A retrospective painter: What his work does not reveal, in spite of treating it elliptically, is loneliness. His oeuvre is sensitive and careful; it deeply moves the viewer. It has a transparent plastic language that involves both the feelings and the senses of those who contemplate his paintings, as if it were a faithful testimony of a deep and large interior life that uses painting as its best conduit to communicate.” (Cesar Magrini, Art Critic and Writer, 2006)
I know that my work is not easily understood, but I consider that its richness lies in the continuous paradoxes that are filled with feelings. It also possesses the innate human wounds; and in a way whatever lacks certainty. I would like to use Joan Miro’s response when he was asked: …”When did you decide to paint?” … he responded: “I did not choose painting, painting chose me”…
